Gorgast was a commander of the Order of St. John until 1811, then a royal Prussian domain office until 1872.
The Gorgast manor, also known as the castle, was built in 1840, the landscape park around 1850.
In the park there is a memorial for fallen German soldiers of WWII. Lieutenant Sigismund von Bülow, a younger brother of Loriot, who was born on November 27th, 1924 in Brandenburg and fell on March 21st, 1945, also rests here.
