The beautifully situated Bastrup tower is Denmark's oldest castle ruin. Some coins date it before
1150, the widespread use of sawdust places it in the first half of the 1100s,
and a letter of King Niels called Ebbe of Bastetorp until 1130. The tower
has violent dimensions with a 6m thick wallet of battlefield
and lined on both sides with sawdust - probably to make an impression and
because one was only used to building churches in stone - not fortifications.
