KNIGHT BRUNO
The statue was created in 1997 for the 25th anniversary of Heimatverein Asbeck e. V. created by the sculptor Werner Bruning.
The bronze figure is reminiscent of the legendary knight "Bruno von Asbeck". As a symbol of the manorial rule of the House of Asbeck, the figure stands on the border between the two manors of the House of Asbeck and Asbeck Abbey.
There is a fabulous story about "Knight Bruno":
The bold knight Bruno von Asbeck, how he saved the crown of the German imperial family:
The legend tells of the bold knight Bruno von Asbeck, who performed an outstanding heroic deed and was rewarded for it.
When the Turks invaded German territory, a valuable treasure - the legend tells of a crown - was lost to them. The German imperial family mourned the painful loss. Then rescue came from the Asbeck knight Bruno. While the Turks were celebrating a wedding and drinking drunk in the camp, Bruno managed to sneak up on the stolen treasure unnoticed and present it to the German Kaiser.
He was full of praise for this bold little bit and he said: “All the land that you can ride around from your castle in three days should be yours!” But the knight was humble enough not to make use of this brilliant offer ; he saw his act amply rewarded by the award of an area that could be ridden around in a day.
And so he did.
