The two valleys of the Perlenbach and Fuhrtsbach, with a total area of 331 hectares, form a nature reserve, which is characterized by its fen vegetation and wet grassland fallow.

More than ten million wild yellow daffodils bloom here in spring. This nature reserve gained a high level of awareness through these extensive narcissus meadows. Every year many tourists come here to admire the daffodil blossoms in spring.

In the Perlen- and Fuhrtsbachtal nature reserve there is a great variety of plants and animals that have found ideal conditions here: around 360 species of fern and flowering plants, more than 70 species of moss, 45 species of molluscs (snails, mussels), 35 butterflies, at least 1 dozen species of dragonflies, 7 native fish species, over 80 species of birds and more than 40 mammals.
Of these species, over 120 are endangered in North Rhine-Westphalia and some are even threatened with extinction.

In April, when it gets warmer, the daffodils bloom on the meadows in Fuhrtsbachtal. A beautiful sight.

Every year in spring, millions of wild daffodils transform the valley meadows
in the Perlenbach- and Fuhrtsbachtal nature reserve near Monschau into a sea of yellow flowers. In Germany it occurs only in the Eifel and Hunsrück.
The remote stream valleys have been used for hay extraction for more than 600 years since the 12th century.
