    The Gröberner See is one of the northernmost lakes in the Central German Lakeland. He emerged from the former open pit Gröbern. The name derives from the nearby village of Gröbern.On June 8, 1987, excavators in the Gröbern opencast mine encountered bones of a 100,000-year-old forest elephant, which are shown in the Landesmuseum für Vorgeschichte in Halle.Source:öberner_Seeöberner-see.html
