This lock is no longer in use. Between 1971 and 2001, more than 22 thousand ships with sand and gravel sailed through this lock. The lock was counted out of use in 2001. A brasserie (Bosbrasserie In de sluis) and the visitor centre De Maasduinen are located on the inner head.

Be sure to walk down once. Nice perspective on the surroundings!

Interesting views. It's impressive to see how many ships used to go back and forth here ...

"...The Reindersmeer is a sand extraction site from the last century that was converted into a nature reserve. At the same time, the hole was filled with groundwater. This created a special puddle. At this time, a lock complex was built to prevent the area drained towards the Meuse and dried up massively..."

The lock should be committed..a great experience.

Maasduinen Nature Park with the Reindersmeer and Leukermeer is one of the most beautiful locations in the Netherlands.
There are various options to start the right walk or bike tour.

My preference for walking is to start at Wezerweg 430, where there is a small parking lot. From here you walk through Bosserheide and cross the Wezerweg again a little further. Then you walk to the Reindersmeer and then go towards the Ferry Ferry (by turning the wheel you can pull it to the right bank.

Then you can get to the other side with about 8 people pulling on a steel cable. Tip: I always take a pair of cycling gloves with me. Steel cable.
On the other side, the ring road now follows to Restaurant Brasserie de Sluis to strengthen the inner man here. A beautiful location, built completely over the Weir or Sluis.

After the break it continues past the Leukermeer and the fantastic Stepping Stones that lie at the Strandbad Seuernheide and which invite you to walk over them (at least those who feel confident?)
Just when the Leuker marina comes into view, you can take a path to the left and then right again. You then walk towards Het Leuken and then back through Well to the Parking lot. Trust me that all hikers will enjoy this extremely beautiful walk. Greetz Koos

Yeah great! There is a visitor center with lots of information about Reindersmeer, a clean toilet, free parking and a restaurant with a terrace on the lake and a wonderful view.

The Reindersmeer, created by sand and gravel mining, is more than 20 meters deep in some places (see information panels along the geological trail) and is strikingly blue. The lock prevents the Reindersmeer from draining.
