The beautiful Reindersmeer nature reserve is located in Well (Bergen municipality) and is now part of De Maasduinen National Park. The Reindersmeer was created in the 1960s as a result of sand mining. At that time they had started to extract industrial sand for the concrete industry. The Reindersmeer and Leukermeer emerged from the former sand pits. In contrast to the Leukermeer, where swimming and fishing are allowed, the Reindersmeer is an ecologically sensitive natural landscape.

Numerous beautiful hiking and biking trails have been created in the area. The hiking route "The Reindersmeer in 4 or 7 km" is an insider tip. Halfway through the walk, you can take a train ferry (which you have to operate yourself) to cross the lake. A fabulous experience!
