The Rudolf Virchow Hospital in the Berlin district of Wedding was built in 1899-1906 as a municipal hospital to a design by Ludwig Hoffmann in pavilion construction. The listed building originally contained fifty freestanding buildings and was designed as a garden city. By war damage and new buildings the hospital was changed strongly. The hospital has been part of the Charité since 1 April 1995 and bears the official name Charité Campus Virchow-Klinikum.

Most of the older buildings were built by the honorable city planning officer Ludwig Hoffmann between 1899 and 1906 in the style of a "garden city for the sick". Rudolf Virchow as the namesake was also heavily involved in the planning. This fourth urban clinic was the most modern health care facility in Europe in 1906. During the Second World War, some of the 50 buildings were destroyed and modern hospital buildings were added.
