Built in the 14th century as part of the 785 m long city wall. It was the gate tower of the mountain gate, one of 3 city gates. The mountain gate was demolished in 1758 and the tower was now used as a prisoner tower. Through the small hatch in the prison door, relatives had to provide the delicacies with food themselves.

The blunt tower, where you can still see the remains of the 3 to 4 meter high city wall, which consisted of field stones and bricks, was the gate tower of the Bergtor, one of the Lenzen city gates. At this and the other gates, the Seetor and the Heidetor, tolls were levied. The Stumpen Turm was reached via two bridges, over the flood and the moat, each with a front gate and drawbridge. An iron yardstick used to be attached to the tower as a measure of length in the city. The city gate was locked at night. From 1700 the city walls fell into disrepair and the mountain gate was demolished in 1758. After the roof of the tower collapsed, the tower was called Blunt Tower. The Blunt Tower was built on an octagonal plan as a round tower. The two other city gates of the city fortifications, Seetor and Heidetor, no longer exist.

The blunt tower is a remnant of the Lenzen town wall and was built in the 14th century as the gate tower of the mountain gate. At that time, the mountain gate had a conical roof.
