The church in Guntersblum is also called the Saracen tower church because of its unusual tower ends. A beautiful building, I found it open, as described.

In idyllic Guntersblum you stand here in front of the Heidenturmkirche. It is believed that it was built in 1100 as a three-aisled basilica. It was partially destroyed in the war and was repeatedly built up or expanded over the following centuries.

The building is now a cultural monument and a protected cultural asset.

It almost seems a little oversized, the Heidenturmkirche in Guntersblum; I wouldn't be surprised if it were the largest or at least the second largest of all four Heidenturm churches in Rheinhessen.

The north tower dates back to the time of the First Crusade, because based on examinations of the beams it is certain that the tree used was felled in the early summer of 1101. I am impressed!

The church is open daily from 10 a.m. until dusk and spontaneous tours with the local priest are possible, as locals assured me!
