Stacked plates as a sculpture on the market square in Kellinghusen in front of the Jo Kley museum.
The motif of the plates is no coincidence, because Kellinghusen calls itself "Ceramic City". In earlier centuries, abundant clay deposits ensured a flourishing of handicraft ceramic production with an excellent reputation. The tradition is still alive today in the city.

Jo Kley was born in Ulm / Donau in 1964. After training as a stonemason and stone sculptor in Ulm, he studied sculpture at the Muthesius Art College in Kiel under Jan Koblasa from 1991–1997. He has been working as a freelance artist since 1995 and has participated in many international symposia and exhibitions. He has designed numerous sculptures for public spaces that are owned by municipalities, companies, banks and private collectors. Jo Kley works and lives in Kiel.

"A large mountain of used plates seems to have been left over from a feast. Sixteen plates, loosely stacked on top of each other - this creates a tower that does not seem really stable. Sculptor Jo Kley took this picture as the motif for his sculpture, which he for the market place in Kellinghusen. However, its plate tower is completely secure and solid, because it is made of solid gneiss and clearly shows the impressive, reddish-greyish grain of the material at the polished points. "
