    Nowadays it is simply unbelievable what kind of US nuclear weapons used to be stored here in the midst of us. The site and the bunkers are currently freely accessible and can be visited. Very interesting, but also very depressing.

    The Kellinghusen special ammunition depot was a depot for tactical nuclear weapons of the armed forces of the United States about 3 km northeast of the city of Kellinghusen, Steinburg district.
    As part of nuclear participation, the American nuclear battlefield weapons were to be used by German delivery systems. The Kellinghusen special ammunition depot (53 ° 58'13 "N, 09 ° 41'25" E) was located approx. 12 km northeast of the city of Itzehoe in Schleswig Holstein. The nuclear warheads for the 650 rocket artillery battalion stationed in Itzehoe were stored in this camp until 1973. From 1965 until the battalion was relocated to Flensburg in April 1973, these were warheads for the short-range "Sergeant" missile. This missile was equipped with the W52 nuclear warhead, which had an explosive power of 200 KT.

    In addition, the entire nuclear ammunition of the 6th German Panzer Grenadier Division stationed in Neumünster was stored in the Kellinghusen camp. These were:

    Warheads for the tactical short-range missile »Honest John« (until 1980);
    Artillery shells caliber 203 mm for the "heavy" self-propelled howitzer of the divisional artillery (atomic from 1960);
    Artillery shells caliber 155 mm for the self-propelled howitzer of the brigade artillery (atomic from 1972).
    The camp was probably evacuated in 1991.

      Old bunker from the "Cold War".
      Partly still accessible, but the bunkers are being demolished.
      With cool graffiti.
