This beautiful bridge connects the castle park over the Werra with the ascending paths in the forest, for example to the Diezhäuschen lookout point.

Well-known pedestrian iron bridge over the Werra

After construction began in 1882, the arched bridge was opened on April 6, 1883. It was built by the Nöll company based on a project by the ducal senior building officer for road and hydraulic engineering, Eduard Fritze. The bridge connects the palace gardens and the northwestern old town within walking distance to the Herrenberg landscape park on the mountain slope of the same name and the Limbachsweg, along which the Werratalradweg and Main-Werra-Radweg long-distance cycle routes as well as hiking and walking trails run. The bridge itself is crossed by the Milseburgweg quality hiking trail and the Meininger premium hiking trail.

The strongly curved Meininger arched bridge has a span of 36 meters and a total length of around 48 meters including abutments. It is fitted with a cast iron railing that is held in place with stone posts at both ends of the bridge. The once asphalted walkway is now paved.

As a result of severe corrosion damage, the bridge was extensively renovated and partially reconstructed true to the original by the Regensburg steel construction company STS Stahltechnik GmbH in 1991/92. It was reopened to the public on March 25, 1992.

Many lovers and newlyweds attach their love locks, usually with individual engravings, to this elegantly curved bridge, located in the idyllic castle park and not far from the registry office.
