Hiking

Limestone and marble quarrying and lime burning formed an important source of financial income for the Maxen manor and the local population over a period of around 600 years - until 1886. In the past 30 years, several limestone quarries were filled with rubbish and debris.
On the Winterleithe near Maxen and also next to the former electoral marble quarry in Maxen, there is still an old lime kiln today.
