At the end of the twelfth century, Tatenberg was settled when Henry the Lion dyed and drained the area based on the Dutch model. The place was first mentioned in 1315 under the name Tadekenberghe. “Tade”, derived from “Tiet” or “Diet”, means people.
When the second Marcellus flood - better known as "de grote Manndränke" - flooded half of northern Germany on January 15, 1362, the dike also broke in Tatenberg, at number 37 today. Huge masses of water created a deepening behind the dike, the so-called Wulfsbrack.

The Tatenberg district is close to the city center and yet far away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. The wildly romantic place on the Dove-Elbe is an Eldorado for leisure captains and allotment gardeners.
On land, a road meanders along the Tatenberger Deich, lined with tall grass in summer. At the level of the former Tatenberg train station, day trippers like to cycle along the railway cycle path towards Ochsenwerder. The former route of the Hamburg Marschbahn, which connected Billwerder-Moorfleet and Geesthacht between 1928 and 1952, has become an attractive cycle path along narrow branch canals.

On the Tatenberger Deich itself there are sights to be seen. First of all, the gaze falls on numerous white boats: The Möller sports boat harbor for permanent and day guests has 115 berths. Shortly afterwards, the Hamburg Yacht Club comes to the ADAC e.V., one of the most beautiful marinas in Hamburg. A clubhouse with a winter garden offers an expansive view of more than 175 berths with majestic yachts and smaller boats. From there you can even go shopping by boat, as a supermarket in nearby Curslack has a jetty.
