Be sure to take a charged smartphone with you. As the Obersee & Orankesee Association, we have just completed a listening tour of the history and stories surrounding the two lakes. Professional, with professional speakers and great authors. On the banks at the lake are little tablets with the respective website, URL and QR code. Enjoy listening. Tips, praise, criticism to foo@obersee-Orankesee.de

Southern of the Orankesees is a small park and a tourist restaurant. The east side is taken from the beach.

The Obersee is quite idyllic in a residential area. On the south side, the Oberseepark runs along the water and up the hill. In the middle of it stands an old water tower with a bar in it.

The Obersee is a body of water in the Berlin district of Alt-Hohenschönhausen. Together with the Orankesee, it forms the core of the Hohenschönhauser villa district on the Orankesee. The name of the artificially created body of water results from the fact that the water level of the lake is around 1.50 meters higher than that of its neighbor.

The Obersee was created in 1895 as a water reservoir and ice supplier for the Löwenbrauerei AG located on Konrad-Wolf-Straße (then Berliner Straße). No earthworks had to be carried out for the lake as the filled area was previously a natural depression. In it were the Erftpfuhl and the Lindenwerderlake. The second villa colony of Hohenschönhausen was built around the area at the beginning of the 20th century, and the lake has been completely enclosed by buildings since the 1960s.

A beautiful lake ensemble where you don't expect it. Opposite the NSG Fauler See. At the Orankesee there is a very nice beach and also a restaurant with a terrace, where you can eat Greek properly. A very nice corner for walking in every season, in which you can almost completely escape the city.

I've already visited some beautiful places in Berlin at various lakes, so far this is the most beautiful. What do you think?

Nice views, lots of seating and easy to reach by public transport. What more do you want in a big city?

From the north side you have a particularly beautiful view over the lake - towards the old water tower

Great location in the villa district, where there is a lot to discover including the Mies van der Rohe house.

Yes, this is a nice, quiet area, which many Stasi officers and officers of the Red Army knew. Mr. Alexander Schalck-Golodkowski, who was Honecker's purchaser of foreign goods, who had his residence there before the fall of the Wall, and loved Schalck-Golodkowski's art. The house built especially for him here on Orankesee looked modest on the outside. But inside, a considerable amount of usable space developed downwards. In order to be able to show larger paintings, a technology was built into a cellar structure that was as modern as it was complex, with the help of which individual walls could be raised or lowered.
Construction workers built heated kennels for his two mastiffs. Schalck-Golodkowski took them for a walk around the Oranke and Obersee lakes
