Hiking
Quite romantic and hidden lies the ruins of the castle Brandenfels on a densely wooded hilltop. The forest was once cleared here, but since the castle has not been inhabited since the 16th century, the forest has almost completely overgrown the castle. It is forbidden to enter the ruin due to the danger of collapse, but you can also admire it at a few meters safety distance from the path.

Hiking
The castle was built in the middle of the 13th century. From 1550 the Treusch von Buttlar family was the sole owner of the castle and the surrounding villages.
The castle complex has the shape of an irregular square. To the west, the castle was protected by a throat ditch about 10 m deep and to the north by a shallower ditch. The eastern and southern sides of the castle were protected by the steeply sloping mountain. Entering the castle grounds is prohibited due to the risk of collapse. Source: Wikipedia
