You are standing here in a volcanic cone that collapsed ages ago. Until 1913, the columnar basalt was mined at this point. And the Hexenhäusl was - hard to believe - the house of the demolition expert. It was prepared as a refuge in 1930/1952.

There are diverse geological formations in the Tharandt Forest, one of which is the basalt quarry. The quarry was in operation until 1913 and has been a natural (area) monument since 1939. The interesting formation was created by the cooling of magma over the course of millions of years

The house has a fitting name immediately behind the basalt rock. Since there would or are several benches in front of it? Here demonstrations for children are certainly particularly exciting.
