The Great Lienewitzsee is about 13.78 hectares and about 740 meters long in its extension from northeast to southwest. Its widest point is about 200 meters with a maximum depth of 6 m and lies in the area of the municipality of Michendorf. The lake is located south of the Havel in a wooded area in the Lienewitz-Caputher lake and wetland chain. In the north it has a trench-like connection to Lake Caputher. This connection has mostly dried up due to the lower water table. The Kleine Lienewitzsee is located southwest of the water. The lake was first mentioned in documents as early as 1317 (stagnum quod dicitur Lynewitzersee). The name is derived from an old Polish basic form * Linovica or * Linovec, to * lin = Schlei and means something like Schleisee. The name of the river was transferred to two medieval settlements, Oberlienewitz and Niederlienewitz.Source: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Großer_Lienewitzsee
