Round trips around or on the Inner and Outer Alster as well as walks around the water are very popular with locals and tourists. Sunsets on the Outer Alster give a romantic flair and the adjacent attractions are also worth a visit.
With an impressive size of 164 hectares, the Outer Alster is a popular starting point for walks on all banks. The paths along the water are also popular with joggers and small sailing ships and the Alster steamers do their laps on the water.
The Kennedy and Lombard bridges separate the Outer Alster from the Inner Alster. The Lombard Bridge also marks the old course of the city fortifications. If the path around the Outer Alster seems too arduous despite all the temptations, the small tour around the Inner Alster is preferred.

The Outer Alster, which is approx. 164 hectares in size and up to 4.5 meters deep, is the larger, northern part of the Alster Lake. It is fed by the Alster in the north and the Osterbek and Wandse in the east. In the south it flows into the Inner Alster.

There are footpaths and cycle paths around this reservoir, which are very popular with Hamburg residents for relaxation and jogging. The path, which is almost continuously located directly on the bank, was marked with half-kilometer stones for joggers and runners and is 7.4 kilometers long. The Outer Alster itself is mainly used for sailing and rowing, as well as pedal boating and stand-up paddling. As a sailing area, it is not very easy, as the frequently changing wind conditions due to the peripheral buildings and the confluent streets require some skill on the part of the sailors - in addition, here on the water, "right before left" applies (except for the Alster steamers, commercial shipping always has priority).

A romantic moment of sunset on the Alster. Preferably with a glass of wine on the bank.

This area of the green belt around the Alster, west side of the district of St. Georg, is the busiest section of the entire route around the Outer Alster. The footpath is wide enough, there are also enough rest stops. However, you should keep enough distance from the bike path, because they pass quickly. The whole trail has many wonderful aspects, including this part.

The Außenalster in the center of Hamburg is probably the most popular place in the Hanseatic city for walkers and joggers. The tour along the shore is very varied and offers a lot of greenery, stylish villas, beautiful views and even a visit to the White House. And one thing above all: recovery from the big city bustle.

If you consider that flows in the back of the traffic from the Sechslingpforte and Mundsburger dam, you can not estimate these jetties with their gastronomy and views high enough.

Along the Outer Alster there are playgrounds and dog parks as well as benches and plenty of space for your own picnic blanket. Here you sit in the city center by the water and to switch off everyday life. Whether it's a lunch break, a cold drink after work or a weekend walk - everything is fun here in the sun.

Considering that flows in the back of the traffic from the Sechslingspforte and Mundsburger dam, one learns to appreciate these places with boat rests and gastronomy. The view is free.

Hamburg's Außenalster is the theme park in Hamburg par excellence, on land and on the water. You will find peace only in certain places and at certain times of the day, the best morning. In the summer, on the weekends and at certain events it can be very crowded.
