Tips

  • Andreas Platzl

Wildly romantic and incredibly beautiful, this section presents itself. Already children from the age of 6 can march on the difficulty.

The path is no longer recommended for foliage and moisture. The sandstone gets really smooth, so the ascent / descent is no fun anymore.
In all other weather conditions this is a really romantic picture book region.

A nice ascent or descent. It should be noted that the sandstone is very smooth when wet. Good basic fitness is required here.

Wildly romantic hiking section in the rear Saxon Switzerland.

Estimated should be the good 400m difference in altitude from Schmilka to the Great Winterberg. In the descent is more fun.

We stayed there from Winterberg. Great way! The Winterberg itself was a bit disappointing because of the closure.

Along the Malerweg you climb here about 400hm to the large Winterberg. In the morning and in the evening the light breaks very nicely in the woods.

For me the best climb for the Winterberg, you need good condition ...

The longest staircase in my life! Who torments himself up and is jealous of the oncoming people: downhill is no longer fun at some point - I had a lot of muscle soreness the day after;)
Almost 270 vertical meters on a good 1.5 km with an incline of up to 26%.

A really nice hiking trail with many steps up. You should bring some condition for the way up, but still the way should be feasible for everyone.

The mountain climb is the direct ascent from the border town Schmilka to the summit of the large winter mountain. Marked with the green line and as a section of the Malerweg, it is also officially accessible.
It leads up the mountain slope over simple wooden steps without great variety. In the lower section, the slope is covered without steps. Other elements, such as the iron ladder, as they are often found in the mountains, are searched for in vain. The difficulty here is more in the condition ;-).
By the way: the upper section runs through a large beech forest that is rarely found here.

The mountain climb is the shortest and steepest ascent to the Großer Winterberg. It begins in the village of Schmilka and there are countless steps to overcome a good 450 meters in altitude.

A lot of stairs that were built here through the forest.

Very exhausting, but easy. Permanently uphill on steps or steep inclines.
