The church was built around 1250 as the church of the village of Bischofshagen. Due to armed conflicts, the village was abandoned in 1450 and fell desolate. From 1600 the town was rebuilt in 2 villages - Berkenlatten and Böckenberg. Both villages were destroyed in the Thirty Years' War, and the church finally fell into desolation.
