Easy to reach from Cala Ratjada by bus or on foot. Impressive view - definitely recommended. In Capdepera there are some good restaurants serving local cuisine at reasonable prices for a stopover.

The Castell de Capdepera is one of the best preserved fortifications on Mallorca. It dates back to the 14th century and is located in the northeast of Mallorca. A strategic inland location yet close to the coast and the Menorca Canal. It is visible from afar on a hill above the city. So it's no wonder that the castle offers a spectacular view of the city of Capdepera, the surrounding area and the sea.
Inside the castle there are some watchtowers and the chapel of Nuestra Senyora de la Esperanza. You can walk along part of the castle wall and you can also climb up one of the towers. The roof of the church, originally built for defense purposes, now serves as a viewing terrace. In addition to the rural surroundings and the city, you can even see the lighthouse at Cap de Capdepera near Cala Ratjada on the coast. The Castell has been owned by the city of Capdepera since 1983.

The Castle of Capadepera is a walled fortress in the Spanish municipality. It is one of the largest castles on the island. Construction started in 310 but in the fourteenth century it was rebuilt on the remains of a Muslim village.

Beautifully situated fort above the town of the same name.
A defensive tower was already here around 1300. In 1337, King Jaume II ordered the expansion of the complex in its form that has been preserved to this day. Houses were built for the population under the protection of the walls, making the Castell a kind of fortified village for several centuries.
A small church was built at the highest point. Inside is the portrait of the Blessed Virgin Esperanca, the patron saint of Capdepera. Of the original 25 houses, only the outline can usually be seen.

You can't park at the top. (Exception 1 disabled parking space). However, about 250m before there is a square with some parking spaces. The ascent is quick. 2022 still only 3 euros, children free.
Highly recommended also because of the great view!

Must see! For us, the visit was really worth it. The castle complex is in good condition and restoration is continuing. The view is fantastic. You can pretty much walk any path. It offers a very nice photo backdrop.
The entrance fee for adults is 3€ (08/22), but no cash payment was possible.

The best way to reach the castle complex of Capdepera is on foot via a steep staircase that leads straight up from the market square. The interior of the castle mainly consists of a ring wall that can be walked on. Great view. There is a medieval market on the 3rd weekend in May.

The Castell de Capdepera is a fortress on the Spanish island of Mallorca. It was built on a hill in the 14th century to control and defend the surrounding areas. The castle was built in a Gothic style and was originally part of a treaty between the Saracens of Menorca and the King of Mallorca, James I. Over the centuries the castle has been expanded and remodeled, becoming a garrison in the 18th century. Today the Castell de Capdepera is a tourist destination and an important cultural heritage of Mallorca.

Please note that the facility is closed throughout January, among other things. There is also a shady hiking trail beyond the asphalt, which turns off to the right in front of the entrance and is marked on the map.
