The beginnings of the castle are unknown, but a rampart phase of the complex in the younger Iron Age is close. Found costume jewelry made of metal (a head of a tutulus needle of the West Hessian type and an arm ring with bead group decoration) [1] locates the castle in the cultural area of the Lahn-Sieg group on the northern edge of the Celtic civilization during the Latène period (Lt B2-C) [2] in the period between 380 and 150 BC.
The 12th century is probably the period for the construction of the actual castle. A large number of pottery shards were found near the castle, namely from Pingsdorf-like earthenware from the 11th to 13th centuries and Paffrath goods, as they were in use in the 11th and 12th centuries and were phased out in the 13th century. [3] Most of the pottery found belongs to the 14th / 15th centuries. Century. [3]de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burg_Borghausen
