The beginnings of the castle are unknown, but a rampart phase of the complex in the younger Iron Age is close. Found costume jewelry made of metal (a head of a tutulus needle of the West Hessian type and an arm ring with bead group decoration) locates the castle in the cultural area of the Lahn-Sieg group on the northern edge of the Celtic civilization during the Latène period (Lt B2-C) in the period between 380 and 150 BC.
The 12th century is probably the period for the construction of the actual castle. A large number of pottery shards were found near the castle, namely from Pingsdorf-like earthenware from the 11th to 13th centuries and Paffrath goods, as they were in use in the 11th and 12th centuries and were phased out in the 13th century. Most of the pottery found belongs to the 14th / 15th centuries. Century. de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burg_Borghausen
