In 2012, a decommissioned Transall of the Bundeswehr landed at the Ballenstedt airfield under spectacular circumstances. The transport plane, powered by two propellers, has been on the edge of the airfield site in the immediate vicinity of the country road towards Badeborn. This aircraft, which is actually completely oversized for the small regional airfield, inevitably draws the attention of those passing by. Even for those unfamiliar with the area, the Ballenstedt airfield cannot be missed if you drive on the country road between Ballenstedt and Badeborn.
