In fact, in a ZDF survey on the most popular destinations in Germany, the Great Rachel was in 1st place with his 1,453 meters in the mountain category! From now on, the highest mountain in the Bavarian Forest National Park can officially be called 'Germany's most popular excursion mountain'.

By the way, the name of the Rachel should come from Celtic and mean "rough".

You can reach the summit in different ways, but in any case you should not miss the Rachelsee and the Rachelkapelle on a tour.

For a hike you should bring a certain basic condition, sure-footedness and between 4 and 5 hours time. However, you will be rewarded with fantastic views of the Bavarian Forest and the Bohemian Forest (the Rachel is in close proximity to the border ridge).

In winter, the Rachel can only be reached with snowshoes or touring skis.
