If you’re hiking to Nethermost Pike, odds are that you’re adding it onto an ascent of its illustrious neighbour, Helvellyn. Nethermost Pike is the second highest point on the long Helvellyn ridge system and is quieter than its parent but with equally stirring views. Striding Edge is seen in glorious profile and Ullswater glistens in the distance.
As is the pattern with the Helvellyn ridge, broad, green slopes descend steeply to Thirlmere, whilst a jumble of dark crags fall to Grisedale, where scrambling routes can be found amongst the cliffs and on a fine rocky ridge. Due to this, the more accessible walks to Nethermost Pike’s summit ascend from the west, where the gradients are gentler and the ground less technical.
Patterdale and Glenridding boast excellent amenities, whilst the Thirlmere region has a choice of campsites. The Helvellyn range hoards snow in a greedier fashion than other massifs in the national park, so Nethermost Pike is often the preserve of mountaineers in winter.

If you're visiting Nethermost Pike, chances are you're tagging it onto Helvellyn! It's a great addition to your hike. Views to the Scafell Range to the west are simply impeccable on a clear day. You also get a great vantage point to appreciate Striding Edge.

Fantastic views all round, but especially of striding edge, brilliant place to camp with plenty spots, although a bit rocky in places. Also just a short walk to Helvellyn summit.
