Before 1206, the burgrave Heinrich II von Dohna had a castle built secretly and illegally on the Burgwartsberg - the Castell Thorun. The name Thorun can be a transfer from the time and area of the Crusades, since the burgrave Heinrich II von Dohna is said to have participated in the crusade in 1197/98. Thorun Castle, however, was on episcopal territory. It belonged to the diocese of Meißen and for years Bishop Diertrich II and the burgrave fought over the territory.

The dispute was settled as part of an arbitration hearing in Dresden. The demolition of the castle is irrelevant in this context, because it is of historical importance that the city of Dresden and other places are documented for the first time in the arbitration certificate.

Along the path on the eastern edge of the forest with a view of Pesterwitz we come to a memorial stone that reminds of Thorun Castle, which probably stood here. The castle was the subject of a court hearing in 1206, which was devoted to a dispute between the Bishop of Meißen and the Burgrave of Dohna. The legal act and the order for the demolition of the castle were handed down by means of a document, which is of inestimable value today, as the city of Dresden was first recognized in writing. There are several legends about the location of Thorun Castle. One that is widespread in the area is that of the treasure of the Burgwartsberg. A castle within the mountain is said to house innumerable treasures and a brewing pan full of gold and, on Midsummer Night, from June 23 to 24, illuminate a blue light from the mountain, which shows the way to the treasure. Edelgard, the daughter of the resident keeper, had herself specially transformed into a toad in order to recover the treasure from the narrow passages. She is supposed to guard the treasure today. It is only allowed to show itself in its real form and ask for redemption every 300 years. However, it is to be freed.
