In the summer of 2012, the last grocery store in Leer closed. This prompted the residents to organize themselves and form a cooperative. They wanted to maintain or rebuild a functioning local supply with a communications center.

Since October 2013, the village shop with bakery has been open 7 days a week and offers a delivery service. Since November 2013, a winter garden has been added, in which a café operates as a communications center.

🚲✨ Our village shop in Leer is much more than just a place to shop – it's the beating heart of the community in Horstmar-Leer. As a cooperatively organized shop, it impressively demonstrates how modern local supply in rural areas can work when citizens take matters into their own hands.

The village shop is a „communication center“. Here people meet for a short chat, exchange news and maintain neighborly relations. For many older residents, it is an indispensable anchor point for daily participation in village life. ☕🤝
