Hikes to Great End are a magnificent adventure. Its towering north-facing crags represent the abrupt termination of the Scafell Massif, which represents the highest ground in England. A superb mountain in its own right, this peak boasts an incredible panorama from its rocky 2985-foot (910 m) summit. In keeping with the flavour of the Southern Fells, Great End is a rugged mountain of shattered rock, quite unlike the grassier peaks found more commonly in the Lake District.

    Hiking

Great End is a 2,990-foot (910 m) mountain in the Lake District. It's the northern termination of the Scafell massif and shares the rocky terrain in keeping with much of the area. It's a formidable mountain to look at, particularly its craggy north facing cliffs. Luckily, there's an easy approach from the south for the regular hill walker. Climbers will much prefer routes such as Cust's Gully, Skew Ghyll and Central Gully.

    Hiking

One of about nine Nuttalls in the central Scafell group. Great End's summit is a wide rocky boulder field with several cairns. Fine views from there though.

    Running

Great End is 2,986 feet (910 m) high. It's the most northerly summit of the Scafells, looking most impressive when viewed from Sprinkling Tarn to the north-east.

Normally run as part of the Scafells or from Esk Pike in the south-east.
