Some members of the district group of the Naturschutzbund (NABU) Wolfenbüttel meet regularly to carry out biotope maintenance in the former Wölky gravel pit near Isingerode. Blackberry tendrils were removed with pickaxes and growing birch trees were cut away. Dogwood and hawthorn were removed from a southern slope so that rare plants could receive light again for their development. Furthermore, trees were felled in order to prevent their seeding and thus the overgrowth of the gravel pit.
During the work, some occurrences of the rare gold thistle could be seen. In the past the gravel was extracted here by the company "Wölky" using dry mining.
