Hallenburg Castle was the residence of the Counts of Schlitz, lies southeast of the old town of Schlitz and emerged from a fortified estate. Friedrich Wilhelm Graf von Schlitz called von Görtz had the baroque palace built on the site from 1706 to 1712.
Today the Hallenburg Palace itself and some of the surrounding buildings house the State Music Academy of Hesse.
