In the Stemmesheide in Nettetal-Lobberich there are still beautiful, ancient polluted willows off the road. They stand on property boundaries and moats in extensive grassland. Most of these trees are already mostly hollow. Of course, there are always natural failures here.
To properly snow such very old pollarded willows requires extreme caution and a great deal of tact on the part of the processor.
In the area of the Stemmesheide you can hear the courtship calls of the tawny owl every year. This large owl probably hatches in one of the hollow willow trunks.
