Radis Castle is located in the town of the same name on the western edge of the Düben Heath on the B 100 between Bitterfeld and Wittenberg.

In 1378 Radis was first mentioned in a document as Rodiss. A manor is attested to as early as 1499. The later manor developed from it and was built as a single-storey building in 1654. The von Bodenhausen family was the owner for many years. Which carried out extensive expansions and additions in the 19th century. Nevertheless, the castle is still largely intended to match the character of 1654.

The specialty of the castle is an old oak table in the foyer. It was made in 1812 from a rhizome, has a diameter of 2 meters and weighs 2.5 tons.

A small park with very old trees completes the property.

After 1945 the manor house served various social purposes, and in 1989 it was opened as a youth hostel. Today it is also an important part of the Kulturgut Radis association and serves u. a. the old craft.

The current one was built on an older facility in 1654. In 1909 a Baroque renovation took place. In 1945 it served as a Soviet military hospital. Today there is a youth hostel in it.

Because of Corona, three youth hostels in Saxony-Anhalt had to close permanently in 2020. This also affected the youth hostel in Radis, which is no longer part of the DJH network. The corona pandemic was an economic disaster for the youth hostels. According to the youth hostel association, almost half of the annual turnover has collapsed. School classes in particular were the main source of income. Too bad, the house was closed for us too.
