Between the old mining villages of Littfeld and Müsen is the site of the former Anna, Heinrichssegen, Altenberg and Viktoria mines, all of which belonged to the Müsen mining district. This was at times one of the most important iron suppliers in Germany. Although metal extraction on the mine site in Littfeld was discontinued in 1965, the dumps are still largely unforested because there are various metals in the soil. In higher concentrations, they are only tolerated by the specialized calamine vegetation.
