Pico de la Zarza, the highest mountain in Fuerteventura. The climb is relatively long and rather unspectacular, only at the top you will be rewarded with spectacular views over the lonely west coast.

From up here you have a magnificent view; in good weather you can see Gran Canaria and Tenerife.

Grandiose views all around, after Esquinzo and Morro Jable, on the Isthmus of La Pared and the north coast at Cofete.

The Pico de la Zarza is located in the middle of the Jandía Natural Park. A lattice fence prevents goats from entering the summit area to protect the often endemic plants that grow here. Here you can find e.g. B. the Canary Star Eye.

The way up was exhausting because steep, but really ok. The 7 km down again were more unpleasant for me ..... you should consider if necessary. Weather permitting, there are great views and great colors to see.

If you are holidaying nearby and good on foot should (must) on the Pico de la Zarah. A breathtaking landscape and, with luck, great views.
ATTENTION: Pay attention to the correct footwear and take a jacket with you!

The mountain is the remnant of a stratovolcano that rose from the sea 21 million years ago.

Super panorama from up here but beware the north side goes down a few hundred meters vertically.

If you want to climb the Pico de la Zarza, you should watch the weather on the days before if possible. When we were there, clouds came from Cofete at noon and covered the summit. We dawdled too much on the ascent and were up 20 minutes late. This prevented us from enjoying the wonderful view towards Cofete. It is best to start before breakfast. Since there is no shade on the entire route, you should apply a good cream and take enough liquid with you.
During our ascent (in February 2020) there was not much to see of the "green" that is normally up there. But that was probably because, according to a hotel employee, it last rained there about 1.5 years ago.
Even if we were unable to see Cofete, the climb was still worth it. The view of the coast towards Morro Jable was also very nice.
