      Bear fountain

The fountain in front of the primary school shows a mother bear with her two cubs. Ursensollen was first mentioned in a document in 1144. The name researcher Hans Frank interprets the place name as a combination of the male name "Ursus" and "Soligen", which means something like wallow, pond or hüll. In other words: the man who lived by the pond.

Ursus means bear in Latin. The stately mother bear, with all her life experience, shows her two cubs how to successfully catch fish.

The artist Sabine Mädl from Kotzheim developed her own technique for this sculpture. She welded countless eight-millimeter-thick wires together to create the massive bodies of the animals. 450 kilograms of metal were required for the mother bear alone. The bear was erected in September 2002.
