Felsenmeer in the Wental

The Wental offers you a unique nature experience. Countless stone pillars and bizarre rock formations of limestone line up in the valley. They bear such impressive names as Felsenmeer, Wentalweible, Sphinx or Bischofshut. It is best if you take enough time to explore this unique place.

There are official fire pits right next to the rocks.
There are plenty of parking spaces nearby.
The nearby hotel/restaurant also offers the opportunity to stop for a bite to eat after a walk.

The Wental is now a dry valley as a result of karstification. Millions of years ago, masses of water flowed here to the Danube and washed away what used to be sponge reefs. Best time of year: Spring, summer, autumn Transport connections
Car: From the B 466, Heidenheim-Bömenkirch, turn off at Sontheim i. Stubental towards Steinheim a. Albuch; in Steinheim turn left towards Gnannenweiler, shortly after the end of the town turn right 1 km to the Hirschtal car park.
Bus: Heidenheim–Steinheim line, Hirschtal stop. Gastronomy Landhotel im Wental (closed on Mondays).
Tips
A meteorite impact created the Steinheim Basin, a crater with a diameter of almost 3.5 km. The Meteor Crater Museum in Steinheim Sontheim provides information about this (Tuesday–Sunday 9 a.m.–12 p.m. and 2 p.m.–5 p.m., steinheim.com).
