An old half-timbered watermill on the Hache had existed in the scattered settlement of Bensen since the 14th century (!). The old half-timbered mill no longer exists, only a small (renovated) water house and the last turbine can still be seen at the former location near the roof. In 1886, however, a motor-driven mill was built next to the old mill, which served as both a grain and a sawmill. The inner workings of this mill have largely been preserved, such as the saw gates and the fine mill for the grain. In the meantime, however, the housing body is used as a grain store. For this purpose, the windows of the old mill house were bricked up, a drying system installed over the three floors of the old mill (we were led up the steep stairs) and corresponding silo systems. A wonderfully successful building extension with wonderful long windows is home to two large diesel engines, which give this new part of the mill the impression of a real small power station. On the ground floor there is a hidden collection of tractors, including the very first tractor to be used on the property and a great Hanomag. The facility is adorned by two large reservoirs from the Sudwalder Beeke and a former "customer center" that has been converted into a chic residential building in-house (the grain suppliers waiting for their flour passed the time here). In front of the mill there is an old steam boiler bought from Erlangen, which looks like a submarine.
