The Bergkirche St. Marien is a Gothic church with baroque furnishings, which is located on the northern outskirts of Schleiz. It served as the funeral church of the Princely House of Reuss for over 400 years and is one of the most worth seeing churches in southeastern Thuringia. (Source: Wikipedia)
The mountain church and the castle ruins (2 towers) are 2 striking points in Schleiz, which can be seen from afar.
From 2001 to 2010 extensive restoration work took place - also in the prince's crypt.
I personally know the interior and the crypt from before and during the construction work.
Even then, a visit was worthwhile - but now even more so after the restoration!
You should also have seen the neighboring cemetery with various memorials.
It goes without saying that there is a very good view of Schleiz from the Bergkirche car park. 👍
