The Museum Harbor Oevelgönne is a berth for historic ships and boats in Övelgönne at the southern part of Hamburg-Othmarschen on the Elbe River.

Privately founded and operated bz Museum Oevelgönne eV, an association for the preservation of historic watercraft, it is the oldest German museum harbor after whose example many museum - and traditional ship museums were established on the North and Baltic Seas. All historic watercraft are currently functional.

The association maintains the tradition of old work vessels earlier on the same were in use. Without the association these ships would have been probably already scrapped and no longer available to the public.

Entrance is free, donations are encouraged to help these entirely volunteer-based teams maintain the unique vessels for the future. Some can be visited on board, and a couple, like the Stettin, the largest surviving coal steam ship in the world, can even be taken on occasional demonstration journeys on the Elbe river.

1674 Övelgönne was mentioned for the first time - in the church book of the municipality Ottensen - and was until 1890 a rural community in the district Pinneberg. In 1938 it belonged to Altona and since then it is a district of Othmarschen. In the past, Övelgönne was a small fishing village and the residents offered, among other ferry services.

On sunny days, the walk from Teufelsbrück to Övelgönne is simply a good thing for many Hamburgers - especially on a Sunday. But even in winter, it is not deserted here: Because on the banks of the Elbe, there are numerous restaurants, with different offers - from terrace operation to the beach bar. In Övelgönne you then stroll past some small houses and beautiful gardens that are picturesquely situated on the Elbe side. One of them is the Old Pilot's House: Dorte was founded in 1745 the pilotage fraternity and a few years later became a public inn, which was renewed only a few years ago the last time. The fantastic view of the Elbe beach and harbor have remained natural

The Strandperle is since 1970 the beach club par excellence in Övelgönne. Actually only a kiosk, here begins the beach life on the Elbe.

Each ship is described on panels, with the technical details and the steam icebreaker Szczecin is to visit, when he is not on the move. The old HADAG ship Blankenese is restoration and a snack is also located there on the pontoon. An old shelter, the "Döns", is also there. The investor is called Neuhafen and the Port Ferry 62.

A wonderful place to marvel at old ships or just sit on the bench and admire the view of the harbor.
