The Holy Spirit Church in Barmstedt is the most important building in the city and, along with the Rellingen Church, the Pinneberger Drostei and the Uetersen Monastery Church, is one of the few Baroque buildings in the Pinneberg district.

Whichever direction you approach the Barmstedt Church, the 53 meter high, conspicuously pointed tower is unmistakable. This is why the inhabitants of the former shoemaker town call it "Schusterahle". This cylindrical tower is older than the new church from 1717/18. It remained standing when the then too small field stone church (St. Margarethenkirche) from the 12th century became a larger one Baroque nave. Because of the inauguration on Pentecost Sunday 1718, it was henceforth called "Holy Spirit Church".

Excavations confirmed the assumption that there was a church on this site as early as 1140. In its current form, however, it was only introduced by J.L. Nerger built. The round tower of Romanesque origin is made of field stones. As part of the conversion to a baroque hall church, like the rest of the church, these were converted with the red bricks typical of northern Germany. The lower third of the tower was also encased in an octagonal shape. The very high pointed helmet is also striking.
