The narrowest street in the world

According to the Guinness Book of Records, Spreuerhofstrasse has been the narrowest street in the world since 2007. The bottleneck is only 31 cm wide at its narrowest point.

The alley was created after the city fire of 1726, which largely destroyed Reutlingen. In September 1726, a fire broke out in the house of the shoemaker Friedrich Dürr in the immediate vicinity of St. Nicholas Church, probably caused by a burning candle (rumor has it that during a rendezvous between the maid and her lover, the candle fell through a crack in the floorboards into the straw bed below). In a very short time, the flames destroyed a large part of the medieval town. The inferno left around 7,000 citizens homeless. Thankfully, no one was injured; only one fatality is reported.

The Spreuerhof was originally a grain store for the Reutlingen hospital. In this charming corner, the past of the medieval town is still alive.
