Among the megalithic tombs on the Hümmling and the surrounding area, the megaliths at the historic site of Bruneforth are certainly the best-preserved cult complex from the Early Stone Age. Only three of these massive colossi were blown up due to human folly in the 19th century. It is therefore fortunate that we can still admire this document of early human history today, as holes drilled for explosives can still be found in many of the stones. The megalithic tomb that most closely resembles this megalithic culture is the royal tomb near Groß-Berßen.
