In 1957 Hannes Esser settled in the Einbrunger Mühle am Schwarzbach. His sister, the sculptor Trude Esser [1], had received information about living in the mill. He expanded the coach house of the watermill and built his first kiln together with Günther Uecker, who had also graduated from the art academy with him. Word of mouth attracted more and more artists to the Schwarzbach.

The former water mill lies quietly, nestled in the surrounding landscape, lending the route a slightly rural-historical character. Today, it is primarily reminiscent of its former use from the outside and forms an atmospheric point between the Rhine, fields, and the edge of the town.
