The Hermannskogel with its 542 meters is the highest mountain in Vienna. Located on the border to Lower Austria, it can be reached from Döbling, the 19th district of Vienna, with only a little time. It is also worthwhile coming up here in autumn or winter. If the view is not clouded by fog, you can enjoy a beautiful view over Vienna.

The detour is worth it, because you certainly have a great view of the area. Even though Vienna is a huge city, the sight from above with all the green around it has a certain appeal. The control room is not always open. Even if you get there and it has closed, it is worth the way, because you can make a nice break here. There are tables and benches and the building is worth seeing!

The Leopoldsberg was settled already in the Neolithic Age. Later, he was one of the watch and defense stations of the Celts and the Romans. Until the end of the 17th century he was called "Kahlenberg". Admits is the legend, that of the margravine Agnes, the wife of Leopold III. the saint says: A gust of wind would have blown its veil from the Babenberg castle on the Leopoldsberg to the spot where the monastery of Klosterneuburg was later built. However, until about 1288 there was only a simple waiting room on the mountain. Only Duke Albrecht was able to withdraw into a "castle" when the Viennese rehearsed an uprising against him.

The Hermannskogel (542 meters) is the highest mountain in Vienna. The circular walk from the Grüaß di a Gott-Wirt at the crossroads Höhenstraße-Sieveringer Straße on the Hermannskogel to Jägerwiese and through the forest back already create the four-year-old children without grumbling. However, not without passing through the forest in between, watching beetles and gathering sticks

At 542 m, the highest point in Vienna. The 27 m high Habsburg tower was built in 1888, from there you have a wonderful view of the city of Vienna and the Wienerwal

View over the entire Wienerwald. Please note current opening hours. On site is a tower guard. If it is not there, the control room is also closed (for example, bad weather or illness).

Also on New Year's Eve the Habsburgs is sometimes open. Ask the ÖTK beforehand. The view is sensational.

The Habsburgwarte is located on the 542 m high Hermannskogel in Vienna. It is 27 meters high and has the shape of a medieval defense tower.

From the Heurigenort Sievering to the highest mountain in Vienna: In the past, the excursion with the Stellwagen to Sievering and the subsequent hike were very popular, later you took the tram and today the city bus struggles through the narrow streets of the Heurigenort.
On the city hiking trail 2 you soon reach the Vienna Woods and - after a strenuous climb - also the highest mountain in Vienna, the Hermannskogel. Overall, this hiking trail in the Vienna Woods is very rewarding.

Easy paths, but the downhills can be bit tricky. Would recommend boots, but you can definitely get away with regular hiking/sports shoes.

Starting from Klosterneuburg, the hike on the Hermannskogel is very easy and problem-free. Nice walk.
Once at the top, you can go up the tower for 1 euro! The costs are definitely worth it 😊. Awesome view over Vienna on one side ... to the Schneeberg and even to the Ötscher (in good weather) on the other side 👍
