The cycle path over the railway embankment of the former Südstromarner Kreisbahn is also recommended in the winter months, but even more in summer. For the most part it leads through a shady avenue or through forests. In a beech forest west of Lütjensee there are woodruff (only edible before flowering, otherwise poisonous !!).

Overall, the path without major climbs, you can see from the long climb from Lütjensee into the forest. The northern beach of the Großensees or the Mönchsteich offer refreshment in the summer.

I really like trees, but unfortunately they are always planted right next to a street or a path, where they are very nice to look at as an avenue, but unfortunately the roots also constantly push up the covering and thus the whole route is permanently "in need of care" - that costs a lot of time and money and the care is unfortunately increasingly "forgotten" or insufficiently carried out.

@ Zimmi - we started in Papendorf in May 2020 - now the piece from Papendorf is in a particularly good condition - wide and newly asphalted, no rooting - perfect and even more fun to drive on.

Always nice to drive there. On the pictured piece is a goat-free enclosure. Always entertaining ...

Good bike path on the old Trittau - Glinde railway line.
    Length: 19 km
Opening of the railway: December 17, 1907
The railway is closed: March 15, 1952
Expansion as a cycle path: around 1960
Route C begins in the north of Trittau and leads via Grönwohld, Lütjensee, Hoisdorf, Siek, Papendorf, Langelohe, Stellau and Willinghusen to Glinde. Both in Trittau and in Glinde you will find enough public parking spaces if you arrive by car.

On my tour I went on the bike path in Papendorf towards Trittauer. But exactly at the point in the direction of Glinde the pavement was removed. 10/27/2019

Addendum: Stefan50 wrote that the road is paved and should be as smooth as a baby's bottom!

where the former route was paved, the route is sometimes very uneven due to root damage

Beautiful track, good ground conditions, on Sunday mornings you only meet a few people (with dogs) and it is dull shady.

Wonderful bike path. You do not have to focus on the way and can let your eyes wander.

The old railway embankment is a great side route only for cyclists and hikers. Fantastically beautiful views. You can cycle across Stormarn on this disused railway embankment.

Route C leads along the route of the former Südstormarnschen circular railway from Trittau to Glinde. However, this approximately 20 km long path was only part of the railway line,
The Südstormarnsche Kreisbahn was the only railway line owned by the Stormarn district and was opened in 1907. From the start, freight transport fell short of expectations. Passenger traffic initially developed very well, but then declined sharply with the advent of bus routes and was discontinued in 1952. The tracks were dismantled. And it was in the 1950s that the first cycle path on old railway lines in Stormarn was created, which was to become the model for the conversion of other, later closed, railway lines in a circle.

The trail is kept in pretty good condition. In the Nai, a strip was cut to the left and right of the path so that the route did not overgrow. Freshly asphalted and widened in Papendorf. Of course, there are also sections with "rooting" but very nice for pleasure cycling.
