According to tradition, St. Boniface took a rest here in the shade of an old oak tree on the way from Mainz to Fulda. Since then the tree has been called Boniface's oak. The previous oak burned down after a fire in autumn 1921. The oak stood until 1923 before it finally broke. In the same year the current oak was planted.
