During the day, the green frogs make a noise here to mate. As with humans, whoever shouts the loudest often has the most success (just kidding). The rare tree frog only makes noise in the water in the evening after a day of sunbathing, then the ponds are its domain and the much larger green frogs are silent.

Around 2005, only a few calling tree frogs remained in the Dauteweyers area. Thanks to adapted management, the number of calling males started to increase again, but only on 1 pond in the area. Thanks to the continued efforts of Natuurpunt, the land development of the VLM and the municipality of Diepenbeek, the other ponds could also be designed for the tree frog and the crested newt and the population could continue to grow. In the final phase, in the context of a nature project subsidy (with the support of the Agency for Nature and Forests and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development), fences were placed for extensive grazing to create a structured landscape with grassy areas and many (bramble) thickets for the tree frog.
