Memorial stone for the forester Christian Wilhelm Hungerland, who was shot by poachers on April 17, 1835 (Good Friday). He was only 44 years old and left behind a wife and seven children. The perpetrator (s) was never caught.
The crime was probably related to a murder of the hunting guard Götemann in Oldenrode, which had occurred years earlier. The perpetrator Langheim from Nienhagen was able to flee from the Moringen prison and hide in the forests of the Solling for three days until he was discovered and arrested by the forester Hungerland. Langheim's cronies are believed to have settled an open bill by killing the forester.
